IN THE NEWS Woman admits attacking stripper By Charles Keeshan Daily Herald Staff
Writer Jacqueline A. McMahon, 52, was
sentenced to 30 days court supervision and ordered to pay $2,500
restitution to the victim as part of plea bargain on the battery
charge reached with McHenry County prosecutors. As part of the deal, prosecutors
agreed to drop battery charges against McMahon’s daughter, Carrie L.
McMahon, 22, of Loveland, Colo., and bridesmaid Kelly L. Meyer, 33,
of McHenry. “The mother and daughter always
maintained that Kelly Meyer was not involved in the brawl,”
Assistant McHenry County State’s Attorney Elizabeth Vonau said
Monday. “What was most important to (the victim) was the
restitution.” Authorities say the 28 – year old man
suffered head injuries, bruises and scratches when he was punched,
kicked and hit over the head with a bottle after his performance
July 13, 2002, at the Holiday Inn Hotel in Crystal Lake. Police said tensions were running high
that night when the stripper showed up at the sixth-floor hotel room
later than scheduled and turned out not to be the dancer requested
by the party hosts. “He was the wrong guy,” Vonau added.
“He was covering for a buddy.” Some of the party attendees became
even more angered, police said, when the man ended his performance
sooner than expected and, according to the accused, without paying
enough attention to the bride. The assault occurred, police said,
when the victim later tried to collect his fee and the woman refused
to pay. The man was treated at the scene for
minor injuries, but later had to undergo a CAT scan after
complaining of dizziness, officials said. In addition to his medical
bills, the restitution will also cover the cost of replacing clothes
torn during the scuffle. |
